Trichy, March 08
Braving the scorching heat, women participated in a human chain demonstration in Trichy, as part of the International Women's Day celebrations.
A human chain demonstration was held in Trichy on behalf of Omega Healthcare, on International Women's Day. More than 500 women employees of the centre participated in the event. They gathered at the Bharatiyar statue near Trichy Birds Road, and formed a human chain that extended up to the State Bank Road.
Society should give women equal opportunity to develop. The atrocities against women must stop. Women's rights must be ensured. These were some of the demands raised by them. Despite the intense heat, the women employees continued with their human chain demonstration.
Speaking to the media, Divya, Lavanya, Anitha and Vinod, participants of the human chain event, said that women are still unsafe in the society. Sexual harassment, chain snatching, dowry deaths continue to happen, they said.
Although women have equalled men in almost all the fields, the equality is not being reflected in the society. "Women like us know how to live in this society and handle it. But women from the rural areas are still not aware of how todeal with the issues of the society. We conduct such events in order to create awareness among those women."
"Women have attained their freedom. But, they often fail to properly utilize this freedom. That is where the problem begins. We should not misuse the freedom thinking that it is absolute. Women should end the ignorance that prevails among them and accomplish great feats in this world," they said.
