When Science students learn Computer Medical Coding
If our job matches our educational qualifications, we generally find the task easy and more interesting. Also, our involvement in the job is higher. But, there are many among us who are in careers that have nothing to do with what we had studied for. "Our company performs three kinds of tasks – 1 Data entry, 2. Voice Processing (Usually at nights, based on American timings), and 3. Medical Coding (daytime shifts). All our clients are US-based. A class XII qualification is sufficient for the data entry task. The candidate must have high speed typing proficiency.
"Candidates possessing any of the degrees listed above can apply for medical coding tasks. Jobs are given to them once they complete their training. One needs to be fluent in English for voice processing jobs. American accent training is first provided to candidates with good listening comprehension in English. Jobs are given once they are sufficiently trained in accent. These are the only three qualifications that the candidate needs," he said.
On training methods and job opportunities, he said, "Those interested in training can find more information about us on www.omcacademy.com. They can either apply online or in person. We select the candidates after a test. Clearing the test does not automatically mean that you are also going to be proficient in your task. We have an exclusive Omega Medical Coding Academy to provide training for them. We enrol the candidates at the academy for 60 days training in medical coding. Students need to pay a nominal fee for the training, because after completing the course, they can join any other company as medical coders. But, we conduct another selection test and choose candidates to work in our own concern. We refund the course fee to the candidate on completion of one year of service with us."The medical coding centre was launched in Chennai and Trichy three years ago, and has, until now, trained more than 2000 candidates. Of these, nearly 1900 are currently being employed by us.
