Chennai: Educational institutions should focus on practical training with emphasis on latest trend which will make students more employable, said Gopi Natarajan, CEO and founder of Omega Healthcare.
Speaking to 'News Today' on the sidelines of CII Connect 2016 Awards function here yesterday to honour outstanding entrepreneurs of the year, Gopi Natarajan said the sector was growing well especially the healthcare, back office and services sector – at a rate of some 33 per cent every year and "we are also growing with it."
Talking about being one of the frontrunners in the industry, Gopi said, "we are niche players and don't go behind oportunities. Gopi said that the results of US Presidential elections would not affect the sector and its development."
About the employment opportunities in the sector and in Omega Healthcare, he said that they prefered freshers as they can be easily trained.
Further, he said that students pursuing life sciences were preferred for codingrelated openings, those with good English knowledge got into the voice process. Asked whether the US medical insurance scheme could be replicated in India, he said, "we are 10-15 years away from that. We go to clinics and pay in cash. which is not the case in the US. We have a young population and healthcare needs are comparatively less. The health insurance system in our country is still at a nascent stage."
Earlier, addressing the valedictory session of 'Connect 2016: International Conference and Exposition on Information and Communication Technology (ICT)', State IT Minister M Manikandan said that the government would procure 5.35 lakh laptops this academic year which will be distributed to students of government, government-aided school and college students.
The Minister added that the State government had so far procured as many as 32.35 lakh computers and distributed them to students since 2011.
