Healthcare outsourcing services provider Omega Healthcare is gearing up to see increased demand for coding services from first quarter of next year as the US healthcare industry is nearing its deadline to upgrade to ICD-10 coding system. The company is opening three centres to provide coding services training.
The company has opened Omega Healthcare Medical Academy in Chennai and has trained 150 coders in three months.
It will open similar academies in Bangalore and Trichy to cater to the increasing demand for coders in its offices there.
These academies will produce 1000-1500 coders by next year and the company with headcount demand projection of 1200-1500 trained people hopes to absorb them, said Gopi Natarajan, co-founder and CEO of Omega Healthcare.
The company currently has over 2,000 coders across its offices in Chennai, Bangalore, Trichy and Manila.
"We expect the demand for coding services in the US to grow exponentially by next year. After the Christmas holidays the hospitals and physician services, which have not moved into ICD 10, will have to get ready for the new system before October 1, 2015. Coding, which accounts for 28 per cent of our revenues, is expected to grow to 36 per cent by next year," he said.
According to him, almost 50 per cent of the healthcare providers in the US are ready to switch over to the new system.
